Winter in Marktoberdorf

Schneeflöcken, Weißröckchen...wir haben dich gern!

(German christmas song about adoring snow flakes)

Finally snow… I have been waiting so long and today it is just perfect. The snow is glittering, the air is cold and the sun is coming through. I am floating, sliding movements. I can hear the crunching snow and my breath. I feel the rhythm  - purest joy.

At the skiing hill of Marktoberdorf sledging fans are scrimmaging: up the hill and dashing back down across self-made jumps and slopes. – Yeess! There is a small lift in Leuterschach – a rarity. The village kids ride by themselves up and down without pausing until dusk.

For the more ambitious ones: the big ski lifts at the Alps are close by. Five different skiing resorts are located within a 30 minutes range. A more contemplative event is the snowshoeing, along the Linden alley across the snowy fields and lakes with stops for a bite to eat and drink. Figure skaters and Ice-Hockey-Pros are welcome at the ice rink in Marktoberdorf and the natural ice rinks in Stötten and Görisried. During the advent season the romantic Christmas market in Marktoberdorf invites for a mug of punch, freshly baked waffles and a classic Bratwurst.

Winter Wandering in Marktoberdorf

Snow shoe wandering is the most individual form of movement during winter time. No given paths, no slope nor trail – just put on those shoes and start walking cross-country towards the downing sun. We can tell you where you can rent snow shoes or you might even be interested in a guided tour?
